The Mediterranean diet focuses on foods such as fruits, vegetables, olive oil, fish, pasta, olives, and rice. This diet involves careful portion control because eating a lot of carbohydrates can cause you to gain weight.

The Atkins diet is a low carbohydrate weight loss diet; there are four phases in the diet they are: induction, ongoing weight loss, pre-maintenance, and lifetime maintenance. The diet focuses on teaching healthy eating habits and lifestyles that can last a lifetime. The diet includes sample menus but the main focus is to eat as few carbohydrates as possible.

The South Beach diet is a diet that focuses on replacing bad carbohydrates and fats with good ones; some bad carbohydrates includes grains and products that use a lot of refined sugars. The diet replaces these foods with unprocessed foods, fruits, grains, and vegetables. The bad fats such as red meat and poultry which can contain fatty acids are replaced with fish, turkey, lean meats, and nuts. There are three phases in this diet: phase one involves eliminating sugars, fruits, and processed carbohydrates. Phase two involves adding back fruits, vegetables, and whole grains; phase three involves maintaining the lifestyle and eating habits that have been acquired. Going on a diet can be an incredibly trying and stressful process to go through; you need to be disciplined and have the willpower in order to be successful and keep the weight that you lose off forever.
